RUMOR MILL: Can We Stop Now?

Rumor after rumor spread quickly throughout the “internets” as Ted Stevens calls it, of the Eagles making a trade for Larry Fitzgerald from the Arizona Cardinals. Perhaps, in light of recent news the tabloid-like falsities can come to a close. This afternoon Fitsgerald and the Cardinals agreed to a four-year $40 million contract. On his website Fitzgerald announced the deal, saying he will make $33 million over the first three years of the contract.

Inevitably new rumors will surface with a different wide receiver coming to Philly in return for Lito Sheppard, who everyone and their mother now wants to shop, and half of the Eagles current receiving core. Hey, I have an idea that may seem unpopular to those who like to blog about which Eagles trade will be sure to happen today; DRAFT THE DAMN WIDE RECEIVER.  Yes,  I have gone on record as saying that the Eagles should draft FS Kenny Phillips from Miami to strengthen the future of the defense but if the Birds keep Lito and have an all-star secondary along side Asante Samuel, they can move Sheldon “Bonecrusher” Brown to the safety position next to the always scary Brian Dawkins. That sounds like a pretty good option too.

So maybe this is the best list of wide receivers the Birds should be looking at:

So honestly, now that Larry Fitz won’t be in Eagles green, can the rumors just rest in peace?

The WRs in this years draft are few and far between, and The eagles probably wont draft a WR first round since they picked up that stud Freddie Mitchell in the 1st round x number of years ago.. oh thats right, he was terrible and cant even get picked up in the European Footbal League.. they did schedule that workout with Earl Bennet but he’s projected a 2nd rounder at best and wont make a big impact on their recieving core. At best he may be rotated in with Basket/Avant/Lewis.. Their best bet is to trade away Sheppard (and a couple of our 47 draft picks) who’s clearly unhappy with his contract anyways, and will probably just get hurt again. Let Quentin Mikell handle that saftey spot as he played pretty well last year, and draft a CB/WR who can focus on kick/punt returns. Im more afraid of our young linebacker core then our secondary without Lito
