Comcast-Spectacor sold the Flyers American Hockey League affiliate Phantoms yesterday, to the Brooks Group, a company based in Pittsburgh.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

This deal comes as no surprise as Comcast-Spectacor was looking to sell this team ever since plans were announced last year for a new complex called ‘Philly Live!’ to be constructed around the sports complex in South Philly. The new slice of Disney coming down to the sports complex means the end for the Spectrum, now in its final season. In the artist renderings for ‘Philly Live!’, the current space occupied by the Spectrum will be housing a hotel.

The Phantoms have played at the Spectrum for the past 13 seasons. The Flyers affiliate has turned out current Flyers Jeff Carter, Randy Jones, Ryan Parent, Antero Niittymaki, Darroll Powe, Riley Cote, Claude Giroux, and captain Mike Richards.

While the Brooks Group may be based in Pittsburgh, the Phantoms may not follow them all the way there. Early reports from the Morning Call say that representitives from the Brooks Group have toured the Lehigh Valley, looking at possible sites to build an arena. Coca-Cola Park is the home to the Phillies AAA affiliate Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs in Allentown. Land near that stadium is considered the early front-runner for a possible home for the Phantoms.
